With the new decade comes an escalating use of social media both for personal and business use. It can be confusing to understand the differences between social networking sites, and I’ll focus on the three that are most prominent in my world, with an expanded explanation further on in this section. There is also a resource section with links to helpful documents that further address issues within each of the areas below.
Facebook: ‘rekindling and repurposing the past’.
Let’s focus primarily on Facebook.com/BluSkyeGroup. The people who “like” the page are primarily friends, acquaintances, family and colleagues where there is a personal connection. We are able to showcase work and share information we find useful in marketing or graphic design.
Twitter: ‘present day by day social stimulus for personal and professional betterment.’
Twitter is useful in developing interesting web-relationships with people who we admire or find interesting. It is a way of connecting with experts in any field and interested in building a professional, social network where we can constantly share information. People use it with either a personal or business focus, and ideally a bit of both. You can connect with BluSkye Group @BSGrp or David Contois @dcontois.
Facebook and Twitter are both designed to connect you to people, but Facebook is built around YOU and your (personal or business) profile, while Twitter is built around headlines, links, and the content you’re providing. People friend you on Facebook because they like “you”; they follow you on Twitter because they like what you have to “say”.
LinkedIn: ‘all about future interactions with people and parts unknown‘.
LinkedIn is professional and business oriented. It’s great interacting in discussions, groups and polls. It’s an incredible networking tool to connect with other business professionals.
